#SportsBiz Canada Thought Leaders

Last week, I came across this great blog post by Affinio that identified the top 100 most relevant Twitter accounts in sports marketing. But after reviewing the list, I noticed there were only two Canadian based profiles that made the cut. One was our friends Avish Sood and Darryn Renaud at The Sponsorship Space (@SponsorTalk). The other was Vancouver WhiteCaps’ executive Paul Fruitman @paulfruitman, another friend and early supporter of Sports Business Canada. Thanks to the low Canadian representation, I decided it would be a great idea to curate a Made in Canada list of sports business thought leaders. So here goes…

The first list is a collection of Canadian based accounts that regularly post about sports marketing, sponsorship, and media. The second list features Canadian sports execs who are active on Twitter.

Thought Leaders

The Sponsorship Space (@SponsorTalk) is Canadian-based but provides sponsorship coverage from both outside of Canada and the sports industry.

Marketing Magazine (@Marketing_Mag) provides news on Canadian marketing in general, including plenty of coverage on sports related news and activations.

Tom Mayenknecht (@TheSportMarket) hosts The Sport Market on TSN Radio and is regularly sharing Canadian #sportsbiz news on Twitter.

Sports Media in Canada (@SportsMediaCAN) tweets Canadian sports media news and ratings.

Rick Westhead (@rwesthead) is a correspondent with TSN and regularly tweets and writes about sports law matters.

S&E Sponsorship (@SESponsorship) was founded by Brian Cooper (@canadacoop), former VP of Business Development and Operations with MLSE and President of the Toronto Argos, and is one of Canada’s leading sponsorship agencies. S&E regularly shares Canadian sports sponsorship news on Twitter and their blog provides thought leadership from staff.

The T1 Agency (@TheT1Agency) is a full-service, independent creative agency in Toronto and hosts the annual Canadian Sponsorship Forum (CSFX). The team at T1 share insights on the company’s blog and President Mark Harrison (@MarkHarrison3) regularly posts from his own website.
