Nominations for this year’s 5 To Watch Sports Business Awards are now open

Nominations for this year’s 5 To Watch Sports Business Awards are now open. The annual awards are handed out to the Canada’s brightest young minds in the business of sport.

Awareness of the awards has grown significantly in the past few years, with nominations coming from a variety of business sectors across the country. Event Co-Chair, Brendan Fyfe gave some insight into what judges are looking for. “It’s important for those who are writing nominations to put some thought into their submissions. It takes more than an impressive title to get the nod from the nomination review team. Submissions should detail how a candidate’s actions have driven identifiable results for their organization. Any key success metrics or examples of leadership or innovation will help to build a strong case.”

Anyone from the public can make a nomination before February 28th. Nominations will be reviewed by two separate judging panels comprised of more than 100 sports business executives. The top five vote-getters will be honoured at a gala on June 21st at the Waterfront Campus of George Brown College in Toronto.

Last year’s winners were:

Andrew Argo, Director of Corporate Sponsorship and Business Development with the New York Jets

Atila Ozkaplan, Senior Director of Technical Logistics with NBC Sports Group

Catherine Gosselin-Després, Executive Director of Sports with The Canadian Paralympic Committee

Jordan Vader, Senior Director of Global Partnerships with MLSE

Lisa Ferkul, Director of Hockey Sponsorship with Scotiabank
